You’ve probably seen Afterpay available on your favorite online store like Urban Outfitters, Fenty Beauty, and Moana Bikini. So, what is Afterpay? Simply put, Afterpay is a modern payment method that allows you to pay for your order in an interest-free installment plan every 2 weeks.

Fifth & Ninth has partnered with Afterpay to make it easier than ever to shop now…and pay later!

What Afterpay isn’t

Why bother using Afterpay instead of a regular credit or debit card? While it’s true that you’ll need either a debit or credit card to sign up for Afterpay, there are some major differences between these three forms of payment. With Afterpay, you don’t have to worry about paying interest like you would on a credit card each month. Carrying a high monthly balance on your credit card can also negatively impact your credit score. When you sign up, Afterpay won’t run a hard credit check like credit card companies are required to.

Afterpay is also different from your debit card. With debit cards, there’s the possibility that you’ve miscalculated your bank account balance, forgotten about a scheduled bill, or have been hit with an unexpected ATM fee. These common situations could lead to a myriad of issues such as bounced payments, late fees, and extensive overdraft fees that could harm you financially.

How does Afterpay compare to other installment plan payment methods? Compared to both Klarna and Affirm, Afterpay is the leading service of its kind in over 100 countries including the United States, Canada, and Australia and has wider coverage in more online store categories such as lifestyle, shopping, and home & garden.

Afterpay only requires a "soft credit check" for new US customer during sign-up. It should be noted that soft credit checks (also known as soft pulls or soft inquiries) are very common and will not affect credit scores, will not be visible to other lenders or creditors and may or may not be recorded in credit reports, depending on the credit bureau.

Your purchase limit isn’t guaranteed with other companies like Klarna and Affirm, but with Afterpay the maximum purchase will always be at least $1000, and can be increased to $2000 maximum. With Afterpay, you’ll always have interest-free payments as long as your payments are on time while other services don’t approve everyone for 0% interest.

    How Afterpay works

Afterpay makes paying for purchases a lot more manageable. The first payment is due at the time you place an order. Scheduled payments are interest-free and split into 4 equal installments over every 2 weeks. Always zero interest and never pay anything more when you pay on time. Afterpay will even email your payment schedule and send notifications so there are no surprises.

However, if you can’t make a scheduled payment, then Afterpay has a hardship policy that allows them to work with you to get you back on track. As soon as you miss a payment, Afterpay will immediately stop you from making any further purchases with Afterpay until the situation is resolved.
