What is Blue Light?

Blue light is high-energy light found everywhere! We are exposed to it from electronic devices we use daily. Our phones, tablets, computers, and TVs emit Blue Light wavelengths that range from 380 to 500 nm.

The average American adult spends up to 12 hours a day in front of a screen, while nearly half of American children now spend more than 6 hours a day in front of a screen. With more students learning remotely from home, they risk overexposure to blue light and its side effects.

What are the side effects of too much Blue Light?

A survey in the Wall Street Journal found that 70% of teens use their mobile phones within half an hour of going to sleep. Equally as important, overexposure to Blue Light can cause sleep cycle disruption in children and adults by suppressing the production of melatonin. Sleepless nights lead to daytime fatigue and lower cognitive performance. Other side effects can include eye strain, blurred vision, dry eyes, headaches, and include the risk of macular degeneration.
